"Freedom Flights" from Cuba come to an end on April 7. Over a seven and a half year period of operation these flights brought approximately 261,000 refugees to the United States. Refugees entered Miami at a rate of 48,000 per year helping to transform the ethnic composition of Dade county. Eighty percent of these refugees were believed to be self-sustaining shortly after their arrival.
